State Of Washington Among First In The Country To Update Its MMIS In Compliance With Federal Mandates

Earlier this month, the state of Washington announced that in utilizing CNSI’s ProviderOne system technology, the Washington State Health Care Authority (HCA) is now among the first in the country to update its Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS) in compliance with federal mandates set by the Affordable Care Act.

These latest updates to the state’s MMIS, a technology system that provides state health agencies with a streamlined digital platform to administer Medicaid, make Washington’s HCA a national leader among state Medicaid programs.

ProviderOne, the primary Medicaid provider payment system utilized by the state and built and operated by CNSI, is now fully compliant with the mandated CORE (Committee on Operating Rules for Information Exchange) operating rule requirements.

The CORE requirements build on existing standards to make electronic transactions more predictable and consistent while driving the creation and adoption of health care operating rules that support existing standards, accelerate interoperability and align administrative and clinical activities among providers, payers and consumers. Specifically, the Phase III CORE rules adopted by HCA streamline the transfer of electronic funds, providing both the state and beneficiaries a system that promotes flexibility in adapting to ongoing changes in the health care field.

ProviderOne serves more than 1.6 million beneficiaries and is aided by a strong collaborative effort between CNSI and the HCA to effectively enable Washington to meet federal mandates as they are updated.

In a CNSI news release announcing the update, CNSI CEO B. Chatterjee stated that, “Our system is proving to be a valuable asset to the state by utilizing state-of-the-art technology that meets the needs of more than a million health care beneficiaries and their continuously changing demands.”

In that same release, Cathie Ott, director of the Division of Program and Payment Integrity at the HCA, noted that the agency is “very pleased to be one of the leading states that is innovating to create not only a modern system, but a better value for Medicaid beneficiaries.” Ott continued, “CNSI has been a valuable partner throughout this process and we look forward to continuing to work together on this initiative.”

CNSI began working with Washington in 2005 when it undertook the massive initiative to replace the legacy MMIS, developing one of the most successful updates in the industry.
