U.S. Coast Guard - Boating Accident Report Database

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) office of boating safety is dedicated to reducing loss of life, injuries and property damage that occur on U.S. waterways by improving the knowledge, skills and abilities of recreational boaters. An array of government agencies, including local, state and territory boating law boating administrators (BLAs), required the ability to share that information in one central location accessible via the Internet. CNSI is currently in its 11th year of working with USCG in developing a web-based Boating Accident Report Database (BARD-Web) System that allowed all government agencies to report boating accident data utilizing their individual state form while still providing USCG the ability to report on common data attributes. CNSI developed BARD, trained all BLAs and system users and currently provides hosting, software maintenance & enhancement and helpdesk support for the system. CNSI’s work continues to positively impact the USCG recreational boating services. In September of 2013, the system was updated to incorporate news media reports functionality, for which an orientation module was developed and shared with all state, territory and other government agency users.
